Usage

When you create or find a new page within the scope of WikiProject New Zealand please add any of the following to the top of its talk page:

Unused parameters may be omitted. This template automatically adds articles to Category:WikiProject New Zealand articles.

Optional parameters

• class – valid values are listed in the custom class mask. See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
• importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
• law – set |law=yes if the article is supported by the New Zealand law task force.
  • This parameter populates Category:New Zealand law articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:New Zealand law articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • law-importance (only used if |law=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the New Zealand law task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:New Zealand law articles by importance.
• listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Edmund Hillary, use |listas=Hillary, Edmund so that the talk page will show up in the H's and not the E's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter.   If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
• maori – set |maori=yes if the article is supported by the Māori task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Māori articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • maori-importance (only used if |maori=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the Māori task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Māori articles by importance.
• music – set |music=yes if the article is supported by the New Zealand music task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:New Zealand music articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • music-importance (only used if |music=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the New Zealand music task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:New Zealand music articles by importance.
• needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • This parameter populates Category:New Zealand articles needing infoboxes.
• needs-photo – set |needs-photo=yes to request that a picture or pictures be included in the article to improve its quality.
  • This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in New Zealand.
• politics – set |politics=yes if the article is supported by the New Zealand politics task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:New Zealand politics articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • politics-importance (only used if |politics=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the New Zealand politics task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:New Zealand politics articles by importance.

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.

Other

• auto – This parameter is for the use of bots and indicates that the article has been automatically rated:
  • |auto=length – based on the length of the article
  • |auto=inherit – because one or more other projects use this class
  • |auto=yes (or |auto=stub), in conjunction with |class=stub – as Stub-Class because it uses a stub template
    • Use of the above values (or value combinations) with this parameter populates Category:Automatically assessed New Zealand articles.
• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

Aliases

• The parameters |needs-image=, |image-needed=, |photo-needed= and |image-requested= are recognised as aliases for |needs-photo=. If more than one is present, the order of precedence, from highest to lowest, is: |needs-photo= → |needs-image= → |image-needed= → |photo-needed= → |image-requested= . Parameters with lower precedence are ignored.
