Usage instructions

[edit]

This project banner template {{WikiProject Egypt}} may be added to the talk pages of articles within the scope of WikiProject Egypt. Each article's talk page is then added to Category:WikiProject Egypt articles automatically. Other categories may be added, depending on the parameters selected. This template is a self-reference.

Basic syntax

[edit]
{{WikiProject Egypt
 |class=
 |importance=
 |attention=
 |needs-infobox=
 |needs-photo=
 |listas=
}}

Quality scale

[edit]

The first table below gives a brief description of possible quality scale values. Before assigning any article to a class, please take a few moments and read the full description of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team's Assessment system.

Each article may also be assigned to a particular class, intended as a point-in-time assessment of its overall "quality" - relative to the criteria given in the quality scale, which is detailed below. Articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed by default in Category:Unassessed Egypt articles.

The following values may be used for the class parameter (they should be entered exactly as given):

Class parameter values (Category:Egypt articles by quality)
Value Meaning Category
class=FA Articles which are currently Featured status articles FA-Class Egypt articles
class=A A-class articles; A-Class Egypt articles
class=GA Articles with a current Good article status GA-Class Egypt articles
class=B B-class articles; B-Class Egypt articles
class=Start Start-class articles; Start-Class Egypt articles
class=Stub Stub-class articles; Stub-Class Egypt articles
class=NA Not applicable; i.e., for miscellaneous pages such as disambiguation pages, which do not require an assessment NA-Class Egypt articles

Importance scale

[edit]

Each article may also be assigned a particular importance.

The following values may be used for the importance parameter (they should be entered exactly as given):

importance parameter values (Category:Egypt articles by importance)
Value Meaning Category
importance=Top Major, broad articles like Egyptians, Egypt Top-importance Egypt articles
importance=High All major or broad topics with respect to Egypt and Egyptians including important historical figures High-importance Egypt articles
importance=Mid Other articles that are likely to be of general interest (for example, Egyptian stick fencing) Mid-importance Egypt articles
importance=Low Articles that are only marginally relevant or of limited interest; also miscellaneous pages such as disambiguation pages, which do not require an assessment Low-importance Egypt articles

Other template parameters

[edit]
  • attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for John Doe, use |listas=Doe, John so that the talk page will show up in the D's and not the J's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people § Ordering names in a category.
    If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
  • needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • needs-photo – set |needs-photo=yes to populate Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Egypt.
