Template:Uw-nondiffusing
Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed you removed a page from a parent category that is also included in a non-diffusing subcategory. It's important to understand that non-diffusing subcategories are designed to coexist with their parent categories, not replace them.
Non-diffusing subcategories, such as those defined by ethnicity, gender, religion, sexuality, and disability, are intended to highlight specific characteristics of people without removing the broader context. For example, removing women from Category:British novelists when they're in Category:British women novelists would leave only male novelists in the main category, misrepresenting British literature. Key points to remember:
- Subcategories defined by ethnicity, gender, religion, sexuality, and disability should almost always be non-diffusing.
- Non-diffusing subcategories highlight specific characteristics without removing the broader context.
- Removing items from the parent category can result in incomplete representation and distort the visibility of diverse contributions.
The Categorizing articles about people guideline explains that non-diffusing subcategories, like Category:British women novelists, should not fully isolate their members from the parent category. For more detailed information on this topic, please refer to the following guidelines:

This template should always be substituted (i.e., use {{subst:Uw-nondiffusing}} ). Any accidental transclusions will be automatically substituted by a bot. |

or{{subst:Uw-nondiffusing|2=Additional text}}

- :
Specify the page removed and the parent category using the{{subst:uw-nondiffusing|Page removed|to=Parent category}}
to
parameter.
Include both the removed page and parent category, as well as additional text.{{subst:uw-nondiffusing|Page removed|to=Parent category|Additional text}}
- Please remember to substitute the template using
{{subst:Uw-nondiffusing}}

. - To give greater detail to your message, you may add the page removed from parent category and some additional text to the end of the template. If such page removed from parent category or additional text includes a URL or anything which includes an equal sign ("="), it may break the parser's function unless you prefix the page removed from parent category or the text with a named template parameter. Use "
1=
" if the page removed from parent category contains an equals sign and use "2=
" if the additional text contains an equals sign (such as a URL). - Please refer to the index of message templates before using any template on user talk pages to warn a user. Applying the best template available for your purpose may help reduce confusion from the message you are sending.
