This is a documentation subpage for Template:Starbox astrometry. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template is used on approximately 5,300 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them. |
Usage
[edit]This template is part of a group of templates that are used to display information about a specific star. The list should always have {{Starbox begin}} as the first in the list, while the list should have {{Starbox end}} as the last in the list. Any of these parameters may be omitted. If all parameters that would be displayed on a given line are omitted, the line will be omitted from the infobox, except that, if dist_ly and dist_pc are omitted, but parallax is present, then the object's distance will be computed from parallax and, if present, p_error. For this calculation to work, footnotes and references for the parallax and its error should be placed in parallax_footnote rather than parallax or p_error. This particular template can be used as follows:
{{Starbox astrometry | radial_v = <!--Radial velocity (in km/sec)--> | total_v = <!--Total velocity (radial velocity combined with proper motion in km/sec)--> | prop_mo_ra = <!--Proper motion (RA), μα cos δ (in milliarcsec/yr)--> | prop_mo_dec = <!--Proper motion (dec), μδ (in milliarcsec/yr)--> | pm_footnote = <!--Proper motion footnotes--> | parallax = <!--Parallax (in milliarcsec)--> | p_error = <!--Parallax error (in milliarcsec)--> | parallax_footnote = <!--Parallax footnote--> | dist_ly = <!--Distance (in light years)--> | dist_pc = <!--Distance (in parsecs)--> | dist_footnote = <!--Distance footnotes--> | absmag_v = <!--Absolute magnitude (Johnson-Cousins V system)--> | absmag_bol = <!--Absolute bolometric magnitude (accounts for emissions across all spectra of light)--> }}
However, you can use the following syntax for two stars:
{{Starbox astrometry | component1 = <!--Name of the first component--> | radial_v = <!--Radial velocity (in km/sec)--> | total_v = <!--Total velocity (radial velocity combined with proper motion in km/sec)--> | prop_mo_ra = <!--Proper motion (RA), μα cos δ (in milliarcsec/yr)--> | prop_mo_dec = <!--Proper motion (dec), μδ (in milliarcsec/yr)--> | pm_footnote = <!--Proper motion footnotes--> | parallax = <!--Parallax (in milliarcsec)--> | p_error = <!--Parallax error (in milliarcsec)--> | parallax_footnote = <!--Parallax footnote--> | dist_ly = <!--Distance (in light years)--> | dist_pc = <!--Distance (in parsecs)--> | dist_footnote = <!--Distance footnotes--> | absmag_v = <!--Absolute magnitude (Johnson-Cousins V system)--> | absmag_bol = <!--Absolute bolometric magnitude (accounts for emissions across all spectra of light)--> | component2 = <!--Name of the second component--> | radial_v2 = <!--Radial velocity (in km/sec)--> | total_v2 = <!--Total velocity (radial velocity combined with proper motion in km/sec)--> | prop_mo_ra2 = <!--Proper motion (RA), μα cos δ (in milliarcsec/yr)--> | prop_mo_dec2 = <!--Proper motion (dec), μδ (in milliarcsec/yr)--> | pm_footnote2 = <!--Proper motion footnotes--> | parallax2 = <!--Parallax (in milliarcsec)--> | p_error2 = <!--Parallax error (in milliarcsec)--> | parallax_footnote2 = <!--Parallax footnote--> | dist_ly2 = <!--Distance (in light years)--> | dist_pc2 = <!--Distance (in parsecs)--> | absmag_v2 = <!--Absolute magnitude (Johnson-Cousins V system)--> | absmag_bol2 = <!--Absolute bolometric magnitude (accounts for emissions across all spectra of light)--> }}
Note that hyphens are automatically replaced with minus signs. If you would like to use a hyphen, type the HTML entity (-) instead.
