Template:Request deleted content/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Request deleted content. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template should always be substituted (i.e., use ). |
Usage
[edit]This is a boilerplate template to request deleted content from an administrator. The name is automatically displayed via BASEPAGENAME, so only the article and reason need to be filled in.
- produces "Hello, Rdc. I see you deleted Lauren Aquilina; could you please restore it because she had two top 75 hits? Thank you.--~~~~"
If you are not asking the deleting admin, add "|deletingadmin=USER" to the end of the template which produces (using RHaworth as an example):
- produces "Hello, Rdc. Another administrator, RHaworth, deleted Sneakbo; could you please restore it because he had four UK chart hits? Thank you.--~~~~"
For obvious reasons, this does not apply just to music based articles; the creator of this template, Launchballer, writes primarily music-based articles and is using two articles that he has asked admins for deleted content for as examples. To put text after the question mark, add "|3=TEXT", like so:
- produces "Hello, Rdc. Another administrator, Alex Shih, deleted Shabba; could you please restore it because I'd like to put a disambiguation page there, and I'd like to see what was there before I put in my request? Alex Shih has not responded to my messages despite having edited since. Thank you."
This template MUST be substituted because of all the <includeonly>subst:</includeonly>s in there; they make it so that all the templates used in the template substitute when the template is. Otherwise, you end up with a load of garbage like so: "Hello, . {{subst:#if:|Another administrator, {deletingadmin},|I see you}} deleted Lauren Aquilina; could you please it {{subst:#switch: |userspace=Aquilina|afc=Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Lauren Aquilina|email=me|talkspace=this user talk page|custom={}}} because she had two top 75 hits? {{subst:#if:|{}.}} Thank you. --{{subst:#ifeq:{sigisolate}|yes|~~~~|~~~~}}"
If you want to minimise the risk of it being deleted again by another admin, ask for it to be moved to either a userspace draft by adding "|destination=userspace" to the end of the template:
- produces "Hello, Rdc. I see you deleted Viper Recordings; could you please restore it to User:Launchballer/Viper Recordings because one of their artists, Brookes Brothers, has just had a #71 hit with Carry Me On? Thank you.--~~~~"
Or you can put it through articles for creation by adding "destination=afc" to the end of the template. This produces the following:
- produces "Hello, Rdc. I see you deleted Zac Poonen; could you please restore it to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Zac Poonen because a very quick Bing search indicates (what looks like) several secondary sources? Thank you.--~~~~"
Zac Poonen, by the way, is the only article I have failed to get to articlespace in my entire time here. All assistance is welcome. (Soapboxing over.) If you are not requesting the content of an article, or anything which could be considered unencyclopedic, please request it to eMail:
- produces "Hello, Rdc. I see you deleted Ryan Kendrick; could you please eMail it to me because he co-shot the Wild Cub video for Thunder Clatter, and I'd like some more information before I decide whether or not to redirect? Thank you.--~~~~"
And if dealing with a small article, you can probably get away with asking them to post it right there. For example:
- produces "Hello, Rdc. I see you deleted Template:Sneakbo; could you please restore it to this talk page because I want to put a navbox across it and I was wondering what was there beforehand? Thank you.--~~~~"
For a custom destination, use "|4=DESTINATION". For example:
- produces "Hello, Rdc. I see you deleted Alonzo holt; could you please restore it to User:Launchballer/Alonzo Holt because he had a UK #97 hit with a cover version of Wrecking Ball (Miley Cyrus song)? Thank you.--~~~~"
