Template:R to article without mention
Appearance
(Redirected from Template:Redirect to article without mention)
When used with the "Redirect category shell" (Rcat shell) template:
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
- Template {{Redirect category shell}} may be used to add one or more rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information, see the documentation page below.
When used by itself:
- To an article without mention: This is a redirect to an article without any mention of the redirected word or phrase.
- For titles that are obvious omissions from target articles, check the rcat index for more specific templates to use instead of this rcat – examples: {{R from misspelling}} for misspellings of article titles or {{R from incorrect name}} for wrong names.
If you plan to make breaking changes to this template, move it, or nominate it for deletion, please notify Twinkle's users and maintainers at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle as a courtesy, as the standard installation of Twinkle adds and removes this template. Thank you! |
This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
Purpose
This template is used to populate a "container" category that should remain empty. If another more specific template cannot be found to tag a redirect, then there are two options:
- Look for other solutions such as to find a way to mention the redirect title in the article, or to find and retarget to another article (a better target) where the redirect title is mentioned or can be added, etc.
- Tag the redirect with this template.
Usage
- This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects to an article without mention and Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Redirects from words, phrases or topics that are not mentioned in their target articles are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy. You can add
|printworthy=yes
to override this behavior.
Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{Rcat shell|
{{R to article without mention}}
{{R unprintworthy}}
}}
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{R to article without mention}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat to tag a redirect to an article in which the redirect's page name is not mentioned. Exceptions to the use of this template are titles that are obvious omissions from their target articles. Check the rcat index for more specific templates to use instead when they apply, for example, {{R from incorrect name}} for wrong names, {{R typo}} for misspellings of article titles, and so on. To clarify, if a redirect is a typo then it would not be expected to be included in the target article, so redirects tagged with R typo should not be tagged with R to article without mention.
