Usage

This template explains different ordinal numberings of Catholic popes who took the name Stephen. It is to be used as a hatnote in the articles Pope Stephen III through Pope Stephen IX.

This template has one parameter, which should be a Roman number. The number should be 1 less than the ordinal in the title of the article where this hatnote appears. The following example shows the correct parameter (VII) for use in the article on Pope Stephen VIII.
