{{Nuttall|title=Nuttall article name}}
- Parameters to alter the prescript and icon
- noicon=1 — turns off the icon
- noprescript=1 — turns off the prescript
- inline=1 — replaces "This article" with "One or more of the preceding sentences" (if set then place the template into an inline citation)
- Pre-set parameters

- encyclopedia=option if not set defaults to The Nuttall Encyclopædia
- location=option if not set defaults to London and New York
- publisher=option if not set defaults to Frederick Warne
- ref=option if not set defaults to harv (see template:harv)

or
- first=author's first name(s)
- last=author's last name
also
- authorlink=author's Wikipedia article name (will only display if author= or last= is set)
- title=Nuttall article name
- wstitle=Nuttall article name — same as functionality as title= It is included so that this template takes the same parameters as other similar templates.
- display=Alternative name — the alternative name will be displayed instead of the Nuttall article name (will only display if title= or wstitle= is set)
- volume=volume number
- page=page number

If |title=
and |wstitle=

If short=flag is set then some of the default display parameters are not shown:
