Template:NZ census place summary 2018/doc

This template is for use in referencing the population of New Zealand places using the 2018 Census data provided by Statistics New Zealand at https://www.stats.govt.nz/tools/2018-census-place-summaries/

Expected usage would be between <ref></ref> tags, or by other templates as a human-friendly equivalent of links to data tables.

Usage

The template has two unnamed parameters.

1. The first is the area description (name), obtained from Statistics New Zealand tables or searches, and converted to lower case, with spaces replaced by hyphens. Any macrons and apostrophes in the name should be removed. If this parameter is blank, the link will be to the Statistics New Zealand census place summaries base page.
2. The second parameter is the area description in a more normal form, using capital letters, spaces and macrons as appropriate. It is required only for display and is not part of the generated url. If the article title matches the area description, it is not required as the page name is inserted by default.
