- 1969 expansion:
- Kansas City Royals are enfranchised; join the American League
- Montreal Expos are enfranchised; join the National League
- San Diego Padres are enfranchised; join the National League
- Seattle Pilots are enfranchised; join the American League
- With the expansion of both AL & NL, each league reconfigures into two divisions each:
- The AL East consists of the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, and Washington Senators
- The AL West consists of the California Angels, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics, and Seattle Pilots
- The NL East consists of the Chicago Cubs, Montreal Expos, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, and St. Louis Cardinals
- The NL West consists of the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants
