Usage

This template contains a list of nicknames for snooker players. It was created in May 2023 following a discussion at WT:SNOOKER. The nicknames are displayed in their infobox. The consensus at WT:SNOOKER was that the parameter was often misused and that a centrally managed file would help reduce vandalism and original research. Currently (13 February 2024) it contains nicknames for 148 players.

Each entry takes the form "|Player Name=nickname<ref>citation</ref>". The "Player Name" should match the "name" parameter in the player's infobox. In the past editors sometimes added additional text after the player's name, usually to indicate some sort of honour. If this happens the nickname will not be displayed. We now have an "honorific_suffix" parameter for these which must be used instead. The order of the names is unimportant but the list is currently sorted by the players' surnames.

In very few cases (only six on 15 February 2024), if a player has more than one nickname, the entry takes the form:
"|Player Name={{unbulleted list|nickname1<ref>citation1</ref>|nickname2<ref>citation2</ref>}}".

Editing

This file is semi-protected. This means that IP users cannot edit it but nearly all registered users can.

When adding new nicknames ensure that it is a genuine one. Only add entries that have been frequently used by reliable sources (see MOS:BADNICK). Provide a reference for the nickname.
