Template:IATA/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template provides common format for IATA code listings on disambiguation pages. Its origin traces to a discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 48#Disambiguation template for abbreviations and other TLAs in early June 2009.

Usage

[edit]

Recommendation — subst this template (i.e. use syntax "{{subst:IATA}}").

Usage of this and related abbreviation-name pairs for articles should be set outside the main listing of disambiguated items and not intermingled with this list; this segregation is supported by WP:MOSDAB (as of the initial creation of this documentation).

The template takes three parameters

  1. title of airport article (automatically wikilinked)
  2. location of airport (appearing as plaintext)
  3. the actual code (appearing as plaintext)

The inclusion of the actual code is needed because the page title may be "*** (disambiguation)" or have a different case or punctuation from the actual code.

Example: On the ACV, the template usage would be {{IATA|Arcata-Eureka Airport|McKinleyville, California, United States|ACV}}, yielding → IATA airport code ACV: Arcata-Eureka Airport, McKinleyville, California, United States .
