Template:Historic England research records/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Historic England research records. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template is used to provide a link to Historic England research records available on the Heritage Gateway website (https://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/). This replaced the PastScape website at the end of 2020.
The information, historically known as the National Monument Record (NMR), contains approximately 400,000 records on the natural historic environment database, including archaeological, architectural and maritime sites.
Usage
[edit]Required parameter
[edit]- num: The monument number from the database. Alias: mnumber
To obtain the value for this parameter:
- Search for and open the required record on the Heritage Gateway site, for example "East Farleigh Bridge", at the Heritage Gateway search page (Note:A filter is available to only display research records in the Resources tab of the More Detailed Search)
- The monument number is located in the "Hob Uid:" field which in this example is 415833. Should this value be unavailable the "uid=" part of the URL can also be used. The URL for East Farleigh Bridge is:
https://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=cbe67e14-c76b-4c25-8e57-5c48163454ba&resourceID=19191
Optional parameters

- year: The year provided by Historic England. Use of

|date=
or|year=

- separator: (deprecated)
Defaults to a period (Use mode.
); if the parameter is present, but blank, no separator punctuation will be used; do not use an asterisk (*
), colon (:
) or hash (#
) as they will be interpreted as wikimarkup. Used in conjunction with the postscript parameter it can provide consistency with Citation style 2, as produced by{{Citation}}
. - mode: Defaults to
|mode=cs1
; set to|mode=cs2
to provide consistency with Citation style 2, as produced by{{Citation}}
. - postscript: Controls the closing punctuation for the citation. Defaults to a period (
.
); for no terminating punctuation set to|postscript=none
, however using|mode=cs2

Examples
[edit]{{Historic England research records |num=415833}}
gives:
Historic England. "Monument No. 415833". Research records (formerly PastScape).
{{Historic England research records |num=415833 |desc=East Farleigh Bridge}}
gives:
Historic England. "East Farleigh Bridge (415833)". Research records (formerly PastScape).
{{Historic England research records |num=415833 |desc=East Farleigh Bridge |access-date=25 November 2024}}
gives:
Historic England. "East Farleigh Bridge (415833)". Research records (formerly PastScape). Retrieved 25 November 2024.
{{Historic England research records |num=415833 |desc=East Farleigh Bridge |access-date=25 November 2024 |mode=cs2}}
gives:
Historic England, "East Farleigh Bridge (415833)", Research records (formerly PastScape), retrieved 25 November 2024
{{Historic England research records |num=1012426 |desc=Wades Causeway |access-date=25 November 2024 |fewer-links=yes}}
gives:
Historic England. "Wades Causeway (1012426)". Research records (formerly PastScape). Retrieved 25 November 2024.
If a short citation is required and one of the {{harv}} templates or {{sfn}} is used then {{harv|Historic England|National Monument Record Number}}
will link the short reference to the long one. For example, {{harv|Historic England|1012426}}
produces (Historic England & 1012426) that links to the "Wades Causway" example above. This is different from the standard use of the {{harv}} that links using the parameters "author" and "date" or "year".
