This template may be used to attribute content:

  1. Imported into Wikipedia from FOLDOC before November 2008. Such material is covered by Wikipedia's licensing change to GFDL 1.3, which contained wording permitting for dual licensing to CC-BY-SA.
  2. Currently hosted at FOLDOC as a normal attribution template, optionally including an article name.

Usage

This template may be placed in the "References" or "External links" section. The template may also be used as a footnote reference within a <ref></ref> block.

When used in an article produces:

  • This article is based on material taken from the Free On-line Dictionary of Computing prior to 1 November 2008 and incorporated under the "relicensing" terms of the GFDL, version 1.3 or later.

This template may be placed at the top of the article's talk page below WikiProject banners.[a]

When used on a talk page produces:

In any case an optional parameter can be passed with the name of the current article at the FOLDOC site. For example:

* {{FOLDOC|Expression}}

A second parameter can be added to provide cover text for the link. For example, to link to a FOLDOC article whose name contains spaces, which must be given as + signs in the article name:

* {{FOLDOC|algebraic+data+type|algebraic data type}}

For additions made after 1 November 2008, please include the new parameter, which removes the boilerplate text regarding licensing as this content is used under fair use.

  1. ^ Early in Wikipedia's development numerous stubs were created based directly on free content from the Free Online Dictionary. Wikipedia policy does require attribution of this material which is satisfied by the inclusion of this template in the article itself, on the article's talk page or, in fact, any mention in the article's history or an edit summary.
