Yank Robinson
[edit]- ... that Yank Robinson (pictured) was among his league's Offensive WAR leaders three consecutive years, set the major league record for single-season walks and died of tuberculosis at 34?

- Expanded 2 June, nominated 7 June, therefore new enough; also long enough. QPQ done. No problems with disambig links or with access to external links. Hook is acceptable and short enough. It is sourced to online citation #1 for "among his league's offensive WAR leaders", and offline cittion #6 for "died of tuberculosis at age 34", accepted AGF (but see issue 1 below). The article is written in an objective manner and neutral style, and is fully cited. I love the bits about his stubbornness and his drinking, and his highs and lows in the sport, his confidence on the pitch and most of all his shy, self-conscious pose on the cigarette card. This kind of mix makes this article one of the better biographies on WP, IMO; you don't have to be a baseball fan to see that - so congratulations. Issues: (1) I cannot find the source in citation #1 for hook element "set the major lead record for walks"' this is frankly because I do not understand baseball. No need to explain anything (my brain will pixellate, I am after all British); just tell me it is there and - when you've finished laughing - I'll accept it AGF. (2) "ill-fillings" is a typo; you mean "ill feelings". When issues 1 and 2 are resolved, this nom should be OK. --Storye book (talk) 15:09, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
I found that info in the source and corrected that typo (since I've refrained from my bibulous habits I've been a great help to the team). If Storye book says the other criteria check out I believe her (her, her not him). Belle (talk) 00:16, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Bellemora. Fn. 6 does, in fact, show the progression on the MLB record for walks and, yes, it was feeling not filling. Apologies for the delay in responding; I was traveling away from my home country for the last half of the month. Cbl62 (talk) 23:00, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- I was obliged to pull this one from the queue as there was a challenge to the "offensive WAR" statement. I don't understand baseball at all so someone will have to show me how this hook statement was derived. Gatoclass (talk) 11:13, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
- @ Belle and Cbl62 (or anyone who understands baseball). Re the above question by Gatoclass - can you help? --Storye book (talk) 11:33, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
- I pointed out the ref at DYK talk. ([1] Second column, first row under "Appearances on Leader Boards, Awards, and Honors"), but Gatoclass didn't see it in time to return the hook. Belle (talk) 11:38, 1 July 2014 (UTC) P.S. I'm totally the DYK Baseball Stats Queen now. Cbl62, if you need any pointers let me know. (despite not having the first clue about the game; strike, home run, there's no crying in baseball; that's it) Belle (talk) 11:45, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
- Good to go for the next time anybody is building a prep. Belle (talk) 11:38, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
