- ... that ....?...William K. Warren could not afford to go to high school. He moved to Oklahoma, working a variety of jobs in the oil industry. In 1922, he founded his own company in Tulsa. He sold Warren Petroleum Company to Gulf Oil Corporation in 1953 for $420 million. The sale was called the largest exchange of money in the oil industry until then.
