Uggie

[edit]
  • ... that Movieline would like you to "Consider Uggie" this awards season?

Created/expanded by Miyagawa (talk). Self nom at 23:23, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

  • Alt1:... that when he appeared in The Artist, dog actor Uggie had two stunt doubles?
  • Alt2:... that one critic thought that dog actor Uggie outperformed Leonardo DiCaprio?
  • Alt3:... that a campaign called "Consider Uggie" is attempting to seek recognition for dog actor Uggie's performance in The Artist? Miyagawa (talk) 23:30, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Oh this is fun. I'll review this in some detail later--we need more dogs on the front page. I think I like Alt2, if it specifies context (a specific movie, I presume). Drmies (talk) 15:17, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
  • OK, it all checks out. This is great. I've made some tweaks. Another copyedit would be good by someone with a sharper eye than mine. I still like Alt2 the best and it removes the wikilink from the name of the campaign--we generally don't wikilink inside a name or a quote. There is a problem with Alt2, though--it really needs a context. The claim was made in reference to The Artist (film), but of course DiCaprio wasn't in that, which lessens the validity of the comparison, and suggests that J. Edgar should be added as well: ... that one critic thought that The Artist's dog actor Uggie outperformed J. Edgar's Leonardo DiCaprio? I'd like to hear what other DYK editors have to say.

One more thing: the article lacks dates, which became apparent to me when I got to the retirement announcement. That certainly needs context--a date or another location in time--"After his performance in..." or something like that. The only date in the actual article, I think, is for The Artist--but dates should already be there for the Dog Show Tour. Can we get an image? Drmies (talk) 17:23, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunatly with regards to the Incredible Dogs Tour - I don't have a source that says exactly when he's on it. He's on the tour's website, but I don't know if he just used to be on the tour, or he still tours as they only have shows each summer and have been touring since at least 2009 according to the site. As for the picture... well now I feel proper stupid as the charity premiere was last night in London and I could have been there with a camera if I'd thought about it and I might have been able to get the shot. Just did a quick search of Flickr for images of the premiere but nothing as yet, there is a single photo I can find of him on there (although they listed his name as "Auggie"), but I can't see the permissions on my phone so I'll have to wait till I get on the home PC to check. I envy you your exciting life. I told my wife years ago that I wanted a Jack Russell, instead we got a part pitbull mutt (whom I love dearly). I'll look for that photo. Drmies (talk) 18:31, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
All rights reserved... Wow that's a cute dog. As for the dates, consider what you can do, even without Dog Show specifics. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 18:35, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Managed to luck out - found a source which said which shows Uggie had appeared in, and so could cross reference it against the tour website for the dates. As he only started it in 2010, I moved it to the career section. As the the photo, well sometimes I get lucky - managed to nab a photo for the Sykes (dog) article (another dog actor) while at a dog show a couple of years back.
