Typhoon Cary (1987)
[edit]- ... that the final mission from the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron was flown into Typhoon Cary...? Source: JTWC
- ALT1:... that Typhoon Cary took an almost identical track to Typhoon Betty a week later...? Source: HKO

- The article is long enough, new enough, and within policy. QPQ is done and the hooks are interesting. The problem with the hooks is that they seem a bit fuzzy in their verification. ALT0 says that this typhoon was the last mission for the 54th WRS. I see that the 54th WRS deactivated on 1 October 1987 (p. 7 of this ref), but doesn't that leave a couple of months they could have been running missions (as Cary was in August and several storms followed before October)? If you have a more precise citation and page, that would help. The second hook (ALT 1) has a similar issue. I don't see "almost identical track" spelled out. Sure, they have similar-looking paths on the map (I'm not a meteorologist), but those changes in landfall probably made a big difference to the residents of Luzon and Hainan. - Follow-up on ALT 1: I did (kind of) verify this fact on p. 12 "almost identical tracks for a period of their lifetime" (emphasis mine). So, if you add in a similar qualification, I think that hook would be OK (the final mission fact should still be fixed within the body of the article if you decide to go with ALT1 though).
