... that the patu clubs on the New Zealand threepence (pictured) were compared to bottles of ginger beer? Source: Hargreaves, R. P. (1972). 'From Beads to Banknotes', pg. 147. "New Zealand's Maori heritage was less known and appreciated in the early 1930s than the present, and as a result the crossed patus on the threepence were likened by many to ginger beer bottles."

QPQ: Done.
Overall: Moved to mainspace, 7939 prose characters, hook seems interesting enough to me. Assuming good faith on the offline source. My only comment is that we might want to link ginger beer in the hook. Also, if the promoter wants an image, I approve File:1933 Threepence, New Zealand, Reverse.png; it's relevant, high-quality, used in the article, and freely licensed. Good idea, I support the inclusion of that image on the hook! Thank you for reviewing. Generalissima (talk) 19:02, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
@Generalissima and Bsoyka: How is the uploader able to offer the scan under a creative commons license? It seems New Zealand's government retains the copyright. Their terms of use are likely incompatible with both the listed license and the commons' overall policies on freely licensed media.[1]Rjjiii (talk) 00:02, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
@Rjjiii: For the dollar coinage yes. But this predates the NZD and even the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. Generalissima (talk) 00:22, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
