Source: In Carey’s General History of Oregon (p. 542) it says: "The incident (an Indian-settler gun fight that resulted in several deaths) … resulted in the organization of the mounted rifle company known as the Oregon Rangers, of which T. D. Keyser (Keizur) was captain, the officers being duly commissioned by the executive committee of the provisional government. This constituted the first military force ever authorized in the Oregon Country." In Gray’s A History of Oregon it says on p. 571 that the Oregon Rangers were formed on "1844—March 9th…" and then on p. 573 go on to say: "The article of compact allowed the company (the Oregon Rangers) to elect a captain … so the company proceeded, by nomination, to elect their officers, to wit: For captain T. D. Keizer (Keizur) ..." Note Keizur’s name is often misspelled in historic documents.

@Meanderingbartender: you should provide a review that explicitly confirms that the five main DYK criteria have been met. An optional Reviewer's Template is located above the edit window. Yoninah (talk) 23:26, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
