The Shirelles
[edit]- ... that The Shirelles, known for their "schoolgirl-like innocence", are credited with starting the girl band genre?
- Comment: Note that DYK Check will not show a 5x expansion as there was a copyright violation in place since 2006. I've completely rewritten the article, sourced it, and even added 3000 characters for good measure. I've asked MRG to revdelete the copyvio revisions.

- Comment - is there a way we could wikilink "girl band genre"? It's a major genre. Could we link it to girl group? Does that work with the reference? Just thought it would be interesting. -IceCreamAntisocial (talk) 23:09, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
- It would be okay, but I'd rather not as the girl group article has a big orange banner at the top. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:05, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
- When did DYK adopt a rule that no link in a hook can go to an article that displays a cleanup template? --Orlady (talk) 18:33, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- It is not a rule, but per this discussion and the fact that on the 20th a copyvio found its way onto the main page I'd prefer to not take chances. If the consensus is against me, so be it. Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:06, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- As I suspected, you have been bullied by the individuals who have been attacking -- and have nearly managed to kill -- DYK because it's not WP:FAC.
Regardless of that, the article girl group is actually pretty well referenced. The refimprove template is appropriate because it would benefit from more references, but the article is in better shape than many thousands of other articles that don't display that template. With your recent research on the Shirelles, you probably are in a good position to rewrite and adequately reference the unreferenced subsection Girl group#1950s and 1960s, then remove the refimprove template and put "cn" templates on the specific items in other sections that appear to need references. --Orlady (talk) 01:07, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- I prefer to avoid conflicts if possible, so I guess you could say I've been "bullied". I'll take a look at that section later; it appears to be the only thing keeping the tag on the article. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:36, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- Done. Wikilink added. Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:23, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- Nice work on Girl group. I went ahead and checked off the "easy stuff" in this review. The blank items are the things I haven't checked yet. --Orlady (talk) 02:33, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

- Almost done with the review. The "schoolgirl-like innocence" part of the hook doesn't check out. The source cited in the article refers to a "naive schoolgirl sound," not the words quoted in the article and the hook. The "girl group" part of the hook is OK. I suggest revising the article and hook to match the source:
- ALT1: ... that The Shirelles, described as having a "naive schoolgirl sound", are credited with starting the girl band genre? --Orlady (talk) 03:00, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- ALT1 is fine. Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:21, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
