The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge
[edit]- ... that U.S. President Calvin Coolidge (pictured) received a large amount of fan mail after publishing his autobiography?
Created/expanded by Futurist110 (talk). Self nom at 07:09, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- The article only has 772 prose characters; the minimum required is 1500. • The references need to be properly formatted; bare URLs are not allowed. • The hook fact does not appear in the article. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 10:13, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- The hook fact has been added, but there must be a properly formatted inline citation supporting it immediately after the fact. Prose size is now up to 856 characters. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 22:01, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- I think that the prose is now up to 1,500 characters. At least, I hope it is. Futurist110 (talk) 02:22, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- There were still bare URL refs, but I've now properly formatted them. The hook fact still doesn't have an inline citation immediately after it, and the ref which most closely follows the fact does not mention it. This nomination cannot proceed unless the hook fact is sourced. The prose size is currently 2036 characters, but the article needs some editing, and I don't know if it'll still be long enough after that, and I'm also not sure if we'd consider the expansion timely. - I changed the hook fact (the new fact is already cited) and as for the expansion being timely, I did apply this page for a DYK nomination four or less days after it was created. The fact that I fixed and improved it now shouldn't matter too much, as I was only fixing what needed to be done in order for this page to get DYK approval. I really think that the standards and rules for this shouldn't be so strict. Futurist110 (talk) 21:48, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- After my edits, it's now 1824 prose characters. As I mentioned twice above, there must be a properly formatted inline citation supporting the hook fact immediately after the fact. Since the fact now has a source, I've taken care of this, but for any future DYK nominations, please do this. The rule, according to WP:DYK#Cited hook is: "The hook fact must have an inline citation right after it ...; citing the hook fact at the end of the paragraph is not acceptable."My comment about the timeliness is because the article was not of sufficient length until almost ten days after I notified you. This kind of skirts the expand-and-nominate-within-five-days rule, but since you appear to be new to DYK, I'll overlook it.If there's no source for the original hook fact, where did it come from? Maybe it should be removed from the article.Sorry you think the rules are too strict, but we're trying to protect Wikipedia's Main Page. Anyways, I've verified this. - Thank you very much. As for my original hook fact, I would have needed to source several dozen pages each talking about whether each particular U.S. President before Coolidge wrote an autobiography. One more question, though--when exactly will this new article be displayed on Wikipedia? Futurist110 (talk) 07:06, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- It could conceivably be as soon as a few days, or it could be considerably longer. Keep watching this page; someone will close the discussion here, and then you can look for your hook on Template:Did you know/Queue. It will first go into a Prep area, then into a Queue. Check the "Local update times" section there to determine when your hook will appear on the Main Page. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 08:10, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. BTW, could you please review this DYK nomination as well - Template:Did you know nominations/Beilin-Abu Mazen agreement? Thank you very much. Futurist110 (talk) 11:18, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
