Swimming with dolphins
- ... that the originator of dolphin-assisted therapy for humans later renounced it?

- Comment: Expansion began October 13 and is at 5x, although the DYK tool does not show it. I am still making some final edits to the article and have additional hooks, etc., but wanted to get this in before the deadline first.
5x expanded by Cielquiparle (talk). Self-nominated at 23:28, 20 October 2022 (UTC).
- Interesting article, good expansion (no idea why the tool fails, 1190 vs. 6000+). No copyvio obvious. Waiting for final edits and qpq. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:58, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Cielquiparle: It has been over two weeks since the above review but a QPQ has still not been done. The nomination is now marked for closure on technical grounds, but can resume once a QPQ has been provided. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 14:07, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- If I had time I'd donate a review. Can you wait until tomorrow? Had no connection on the train, will then be away. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:16, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Cielquiparle is actively editing so it might be a good idea to wait a couple of days or so for them to respond. If there's no response afterwards then a donated QPQ would be perfectly fine. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 14:19, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Thanks so much for the kind offer! I've now added a QPQ. I just need a day or so to tie up the article. It turned out to be a much, much heavier topic than I expected. I know it's DYK and it doesn't need to be "perfect" but at the same time, I feel like it is dealing with some controversial and very sensitive issues (e.g. children with serious illnesses, mistreated dolphins), so I want to make sure it's "good enough" for the main page. I also might have a couple more ALT hooks. Cielquiparle (talk) 15:27, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the QPQ! Just let Gerda know when the article is ready for a second look. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 22:16, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- OK, I had a look at the article and made a few tweaks. The hook wasn't commented on, and unfortunately the citation is so new that I can't access it, but I'll take it on good faith. I think we're good to go. Drmies (talk) 22:34, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks Drmies. FYI – I've added a ref to the article (for the hook) which most people should be able to access (journal article hosted on NIH.gov website). You can quickly find it if you search for "Betsy Smith"; it's the second occurrence of her name on the page. Cielquiparle (talk) 08:28, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Cielquiparle and Drmies: I'm not sure calling Smith the "originator" is quite accurate – it seems she did the first real study, and was among its first proponents, but I don't think she came up with it or anything. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 09:59, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

- OK. While there are sources we could cite, it is potentially contested (particularly because Nathanson is the one who commercialized it, after she published her research). So how about:
- ALT0a: ... that one of the first researchers to propose dolphin-assisted therapy for humans later renounced it?
- As a side note, I take responsibility for the fact that this DYK review has dragged, requiring two reviewers to review it, and would like to make this right by reviewing Drmies's DYK for "free" (i.e., I won't claim it as a QPQ myself). Thanks everyone. Cielquiparle (talk) 12:15, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- don't feel guilty, I was on it, just waited for a sign that expansion was completed. Free qpq are always welcome ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:28, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
