Stephen Hopkins (politician)
[edit]- ... that Rhode Island governor and signer of the Declaration of Independence, Stephen Hopkins, was also an astronomer who helped take measurements during the 1769 transit of Venus across the sun?
- Comment: The autodidactic Stephen Hopkins was, from childhood, a voracious reader, and knowledgeable in many areas, including the sciences, languages, and great works of literature. With the upcoming transit of Venus (June 2012), I thought this little tidbit to be very timely, based on an article that I am currently expanding.

The original hook, at 224 characters, is over the limit of 200. The following squeezes all of the same information into 201 characters, but a still shorter hook would be better:ALT1: ... that Rhode Island governor and signer of the Declaration of Independence Stephen Hopkins was also a surveyor and astronomer who helped take measurements during the 1769 transit of Venus across the sun? - I've shortened the hook a bit more so that it should meet length guidelines.Sarnold17 (talk) 21:07, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- Could this be considered for a special date, namely 5 June 2012, the date of the transit of Venus across the sun? This is a big astronomical deal, because it won't happen again until the year 2117.Sarnold17 (talk) 01:26, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
- Moved to 5 June (it isn't that far off).
- New user, so no QPQ required.
- Hook short enough, verified.
- Article new enough, long enough.
Comment Unless he was using sign language it should be 'signator' not 'signer' Richerman (talk) 21:54, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
