Stefán Kristjánsson

[edit]
  • ... that Icelandic chess grandmaster Stefán Kristjánsson was also a successful poker player? Source: Reference 11: Jakob Bjarnar Grétarsson (2 March 2018). "Skákheimurinn syrgir Stefán Kristjánsson". Vísir (in Icelandic).

  • Very interesting. Wow what an ending! I took the liberty of adding wikilinks to your hook. – Lionel(talk) 08:41, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Overall: @Hrodvarsson: In Notable games you need to convert the external links to chessgames.com to references using <ref></ref> – Lionel(talk) 08:41, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

@Lionelt: Thanks for reviewing. I am not sure if the wikilinks to grandmaster and poker are needed here, as they are both linked in the first line of the Stefán Kristjánsson article. The notable games section in chess articles usually links to chessgames.com in this way, rather than citing the link as a reference. See for example the GAs Bobby Fischer#Notable games and Magnus Carlsen#Notable games. Hrodvarsson (talk) 19:49, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
My pleasure, Hrodvarsson. Well, if ext links are good enough for Bobby Fisher... lol. Wikilinks are entirely optional--feel free to remove. Are you gonna add a chessboard?
Approved! – Lionel(talk) 20:36, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
I will remove the wikilinks in that case, but I appreciate your effort. By chessboard you mean a representation of a position in one of the games? I don't think so. The first game is an example of good positional play with no one notable move, just numerous strong moves that lead to the opponent's resignation (passed pawn makes opponent's position hopeless). It is notable because the opponent (Ivan Sokolov) was one of the top 40 players in the world at that point, and just a few years prior had been 2700+ and near the top 10 in the world. The second game is notable for similar reasons. It is not such brilliant play (Wojtaszek blunders) but the strength of the opponent is notable. Stefán does not have any games like Fischer that I can find, though to be fair very few chess players have games that are of the quality of Fischer's. Hrodvarsson (talk) 21:16, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
