South Ferry/Whitehall Street (New York City Subway)
[edit]( )
- ... that the old South Ferry/Whitehall Street station in New York was reopened after its replacement was damaged by a hurricane? Source: NY Times. "With the South Ferry station, ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, still perhaps years away from returning to service, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is reopening a shuttered station at the same location beginning next month, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Friday. [...] The quirk [the old station] survived until 2009, when a glossy new station replaced the old one at a cost of over $500 million. The authority has estimated the new station will cost $600 million to rebuild."
- ALT1:... that it took almost five years to rebuild the South Ferry/Whitehall Street station in New York, which was completely flooded three years after it opened? Sources: (1) NY Daily News. "Superstorm Sandy dumped about 15 million gallons of salt water from New York Harbor into the nearly new station. The gleaming $350 million South Ferry terminal was less than four years old when Sandy hit in October 2012." (2) ABC NY. "Nearly five years after Superstorm Sandy ripped through the South Ferry subway station in Lower Manhattan [...] The station, at Manhattan's southern tip, was inundated with water up to its ceiling during Sandy. Flood waters climbed to the top of large banks of escalators at the station, which had been newly renovated three years before the storm. 'It wasn't wrecked,' MTA chariman Joe Lhota said. 'It was destroyed from top to bottom.'"

Hook eligibility:
- Cited: - The article is missing the "five years" part of the ALT1 hook.
- Interesting:
- Other problems: - I feel like it would be better if it was reworded to put the opening before the rebuilding. The ALT0 hook is fine, but it would be better to re-order it like so: "...that the old South Ferry/Whitehall Street station was re-opened after its replacement was damaged in a hurricane".

Overall: I prefer ALT1, if it was reordered a bit; a hook about the station being destroyed during September 11 and Hurricane Sandy would also be of great interest SounderBruce 07:04, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- @SounderBruce: Regarding ALT1, I've now put "four years and eight months" in the article. Also, the station wasn't destroyed during 9/11, just unusable. epicgenius (talk) 14:09, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
