Samuel Gist

[edit]
  • ... that rags-to-riches colonial Virginia slave owner Samuel Gist gave the executors of his will the option of freeing his slaves; after his death in 1815, they freed most or all of them, around 500?

  • Article created same day it was nominated, it is long enough, has plenty of inline citations and I can find no evidence of copyright violations. Hook is shorter that 200 characters and is interesting (though I am sure another editor might be able to make it shorter and catchier). The hook is cited within the source though the term: "rags-to-riches" isn't used, it describes his journey to wealth well. QPQ done. The article could do with a lead and section (maybe titled 'Biography') to help the flow and I'm not sure how the sentence about his letter to Washington fits in the article? However, there is no issues that would stop this meeting the DYK criteria. A very interesting article, thanks Clarityfiend. ツStacey (talk) 14:48, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
