SS Anselm
[edit]- ... that four crew and about 250 troops were killed when SS Anselm (pictured) sank after being hit?
Created by Motacilla (talk). Nominated by Tentinator (talk) at 20:17, 12 December 2013 (UTC).
- ALT1 ... that about 250 troops were killed when SS Anselm (pictured), then overloaded by more than twice it wartime capability of troops, sank after being hit by a random torpedo from a German submarine?
- Article length of over 8000 character is alright. Age of article of 1 day is good. Picture is copyright free. No copyvio problems found. However QPQ needs to be done. Suggest a more exciting hook than originally submitted (example provided for your approval). Reference sources are good for the ALT1 I submitted. Do you have any other ALT suggestions?--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:39, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you to Tentinator for the nomination. I don't know which meaning of "QPQ" Doug is using here, so I'm uncertain what to say. The ship's gross overloading deserves to be highlighted. The RAF chaplain, Cecil Pugh GC, deserves to be better known too, but this is Anselm's article and he has his own. What to feature in the nomination and how to word it is Tentinator's prerogative, but thanks for keeping me informed. Motacilla (talk) 21:54, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- QPQ meaning to review another's article, unless you have less than 5 DYKs. It has nothing to do with the ship.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:27, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- I think I see my mistake - it is a self nomination.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:35, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- I believe perhaps a QPQ (reviewing another's article) should be done. SeeWikipedia:Did you know#Eligibility criteria under no. 5 of "Review requirement". --Doug Coldwell (talk) 23:16, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- This isn't a self nomination so a QPQ isn't required.
- ALT ... that sources disagree as to whether SS Anselm had three turbines or one three-stage Parsons turbine?
- ALT1 ... that Cecil Pugh died whilst on SS Anselm and in 1947 was posthumously awarded the George Cross?
- ALT2 ... that SS Anselm was overloaded with about 1,200 British Army, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force personnel which was more than the 500 she had been converted to carry? Tentinator 07:58, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Tentinator for the ALT options. I make a ALT1a from your suggestions.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 14:04, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- The way I understand the "Eligibility criteria" (no. 5 above) is that Tentinator self nominated the article and should probably do the QPQ, since he has over 5 DYKs. Otherwise the creator of the article, who also has over 5 DYKs, should do the QPQ.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:08, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- No QPQ required by anybody on this one. QPQ only applies to self-nominated. Under DYK Reviewing guide, Finishing the review "people who are nominating an article created or expanded by someone else, or who have made fewer than five DYK nominations, are not required to do another review" — Maile (talk) 13:31, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Maile for helping out on this. Now I have a better understanding about this.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:34, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

- ALT1a ...that SS Anselm (pictured) was overloaded with about 1,200 British Army, Marine and Air Force personnel, which was more than twice her capacity when torpedoed by a German submarine - killing 250?
- ALT1a hook verified in references and under the 200 character limit. Picture copyright free.
- Good to Go with ALT1a.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 14:04, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
