Retable of the Virgin of Montserrat
- ... that the Retable of the Virgin of Montserrat (pictured) was commissioned by a merchant as a sign of gratitude for his safe return from a shipwrecked journey from Savona to Valencia? Source: "Like other Italian merchants, Francesco della Chiesa, who commissioned the triptych, had a penchant for Flemish painting. Established in Valencia, he must have regarded Bermejo as the ideal choice for painting a votive offering to the Virgin of Montserrat – perhaps in gratitude for being saved from shipwreck during one of his voyages between the ports of Savona and Valencia – to preside over the chapel he founded in the cathedral of Acqui Terme, his birthplace." Policy compliance:
- Adequate sourcing: - ? There's one claim at the end of the landscape section (
The marina, in the center of the background...
) that isn't sourced. I'm not crazy about using that image on commons as a citation forand in art
(§The main scene). All the refs are in Italian, so I'm going to AGF there. - Neutral:
- Free of copyright violations, plagiarism, and close paraphrasing:
Hook eligibility:
- Cited:
- Interesting:
- Other problems: - The source & quote say possibly, to take it as certainty, as the hook does, seems quite a stretch.
