Rearing Horse and Mounted Warrior
[edit]- ... that the Nazi plunder of European treasures saved Leonardo da Vinci's Rearing Horse and Mounted Warrior (pictured) from the Red Army? Source: Artmagazin (in Hungarian) and the Monuments Men story of the photo
- ALT1:... that the owners of Rearing Horse and Mounted Warrior (pictured) sold the work and made a bronze medal as a token of gratitude, but then sued the buyer for not paying more than asked? Source: National Archive and Magyar Nemzet (both in Hungarian)
- ALT2:... that King Francis I of France took pleasure in dangerous jousting, and got himself sculpted on a horse half naked? Source: offline Aggházy book, or her JSTOR article in Italian
- ALT3:... that being too small next to something bigger can make you look like a sham? Source: National Gallery of Art

- @Felcotiya: Date and length fine. However the original hook doesn't appear to be in the article as there is no mention of the Nazis plundering it and also no inline citation. QPQ not needed as nominators first DYK, No close paraphrasing. Just need to fix the hook and then I can pass it. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 09:12, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- The wording in the article is somewhat less catchy: look for the word "plunder". The source doesn't say if the plundering was voluntary for the museum. --Felcotiya (talk) 16:35, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Felcotiya: Could you make it more explicit in the article please? I ask as I would feel more comfortable promoting it that way and as a way to stop some of the more hyper-critical regulars on DYK jumping on this. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 07:47, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
- I've expanded it a bit.[1] Blindness of self-nominations I suppose! How does it look now? --Felcotiya (talk) 01:28, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- I know the feeling, I've been guilty of that a few times myself. AGF on foreign language source used for plunder. Rest of review stands as above. Good to go on ALT0. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 09:09, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
