Raceway (aquaculture)

[edit]

Raceway used at a fish hatchery

Created/expanded by Baronjk (talk). Nominated by Epipelagic (talk) at 22:11, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Hook: Image does not look very good at that resolution. Short enough... somewhat interesting. Cited. I have an ALT that may be more interesting.
ALT1: ... that poor treatment of waste from wet raceways can result in outbreaks of red tide? (Hookier)
Article: Long enough, new enough. Referenced and formatted. Paraphrasing seems rather close.
Summary: Hold pending clean-up of paraphrasing and feedback on ALT1. Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:09, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Should be okay now. --Epipelagic (talk) 00:35, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
  • For that source, yes. What about the others? See, for example, this and this. Also, what about the ALT? Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:50, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I've run though everything now, ref by ref including the pdfs. Initially, I copy edited until Copyscape gave a clean bill of health. That's not acceptable now, is it, so I'll do some more work on the other noms that were part of this university project. I think your ALT is great. --Epipelagic (talk) 02:30, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Paraphrasing checks out (checked three references). ALT1 is preferred, but the original is fine too. Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:39, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Close paraphrasing concerns. Check this source, and compare (for example): "They can be lined with plastic material to reduce loss of water through seepage" in article, "Earthen raceways can be lined with plastic material to reduce loss of water through seepage" in source. • Additional comments:
  • I edited this hook while it was in the prep areas to read " ... that poorly treated wastewater from watery raceways can result in outbreaks of red tide?", for the reason that Industrial wastewater treatment is not a particularly good link target in relation to this topic.
  • The image proposed with this hook may be a copyvio. I have proposed it for deletion at Commons. It was the user's first contribution there, and it is possible that they have some additional license-related information to support its use that they did not provide. --Orlady (talk) 15:16, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Phew... this is a learning experience (I didn't understand that "Duplication Detector" doesn't work on Google Books). Copyedited again and dubious image replaced (new image above). --Epipelagic (talk) 08:17, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
  • The article isn't going to win prizes for writing, but I haven't find any additional instances of close paraphrasing. I think it's OK to do, ideally with the following revised hook:
