Predatory conference
[edit]- ... that Christoph Bartneck wrote a nonsense submission for a predatory conference using iOS's autocomplete function and it was accepted within three hours?
- Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/Thomas J. Shusted
- Comment: The source for the basic facts in ALT0 is this article from The Guardian. The fact that OMICS and ConferencSeries are running predatory conferences is in the FTC lawsuit reported by STAT News, in Inside Higher Ed here, and is discussed here in Jeffrey Beall's Scholarly Open Access blog.
I could offer an alternative like "... that the Federal Trade Commission has taken legal action against a publisher of predatory journals and organiser of predatory conferences alleging deceptive conduct?" but I think ALT0 is more interesting, so I'll hold off unless there is a problem.

- @EdChem: There are some mild close-wording issues as seen here, wherein a few phrases need to be paraphrased. Also, you have more than 5 DYK nominations, so please review one in return. Otherwise, so far so good. epicgenius - (talk) 19:21, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review, Epicgenius. I have made some tweaks to address paraphrasing, I think everything else that Earwig is finding consists of direct quotations or names of journals or conferences, which are unproblematic. I know I need to do a QPQ, and will ping you when that is done. Regards, EdChem (talk) 22:57, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
- @EdChem: Thanks for the quick responses. I think I read the copyvio data wrong (since the highlighted issues are almost all quotes), so I'll mark that as resolved. I'll approve this when the QPQ is done. epicgenius - (talk) 23:11, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
