- Reviewed:
- Comment: The image caption can probably be changed to something that fits better. I also prefer the first hook, but I am sure there is a better way to word it.

- Full review to follow, but I'm not really a fan of either hook. The second just isn't intriguing in a "hooky" way, while the first hook seems a bit technical; in particular, it mentions "flocs", which is a term readers may not know. Perhaps different hooks can be proposed here? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 09:08, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
- I agree that the second hook is not the best, perhaps the third one is a bit better? I think it's a bit less technical and gets the point across in a hookier way. Thank you for your time. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 14:39, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
- ALT2 is okay, but it doesn't seem to be explicitly mentioned in the article? The water becoming polluted that is. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:51, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

- Apologies for the late response, I didn't get a ping for this page for some reason. In the referenced article, there is this quote: Lake proponents say the water pressure in the manufactured wetland forces groundwater, rich in iron, into Dead Pike Lake. Rip out the infrastructure, return the marsh to its natural form, and Dead Pike Lake will be saved, they say. “This lake represents an opportunity for people to get a sense of what a pristine northern Wisconsin lake still can look like. But they’re polluting it,” said Wolf. “Our own Department of Natural Resources has contributed significantly to environmental damage and to the loss of property rights for the citizenry that’s here.” Heeps of Wiki (talk) 16:01, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

- Thank you, but the article doesn't seem to have been edited in a while and my original concern remains unaddressed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:19, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- The article hasn't been updated in a while because I am not sure what to fix. I misconstrued your earlier comment which asked where the statement was in the article, I assumed you meant in the reference. But either way, in the Powell Marsh Wildlife Area article, there is prose in the Dead Pike Lake section that I feel adequately mentions the polluting of the water, and the source of said pollution. If this does not assuage your concerns, let me know how I can best rectify the problem. I would also love to hear some other feedback for the article. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 13:12, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Oh I apologize for that. I got confused by the article since I was looking for which downstream lake exactly was being polluted. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:59, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
- All good, do you think it would be helpful to name the lake being polluted? I wasn't sure if I should as I wanted to try to be concise. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 14:18, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
- In the hook? No need if it doesn't have a separate article. I could however suggest that it be mentioned in the lede. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:16, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

- I'd really like the concern I raised above to be addressed, but I have to admit that due to real-life matters I've largely lost interest in this nomination and would like to ask for another reviewer to take over. I apologize for holding up this nomination: it wasn't my intention. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:07, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help. I have addressed your earlier concerns. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 14:08, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- New enough and long enough (no QPQ needed). I have not spot-checked sources yet, because quite a few areas are not clearly sourced. They should be sourced or removed. Regarding the hooks, I agree ALT0 and ALT1 aren't great. ALT2 has potential, but I think the Dead Pike Lake section needs some copyediting to make clear which parts are talking about that lake, and which parts are talking about the Powell Marsh Wildlife Area. A hook on the decoy geese might also be worth considering. As a final note, a couple of sources lack access-dates, which are among the more critical of the source fields. CMD (talk) 12:47, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- I have added access-dates to all remaining sources, they were removed when I added some new sources and I forgot to add them back. I have also worked a bit on clarifying what exactly I am talking about in the Dead Pike Lake section, and I am going to clearly source stuff that can be sourced within the next few hours or so. As for an ALT3, I can think about it, but if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 16:44, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- I could propose hooks, but someone else would have to sign off in that case. The priority should be reviewing the article to make sure everything is sourced, so the article is of main page quality. After that the hook is a small step. CMD (talk) 02:00, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Understood. I have cited all of the things that I have seen that I believe warrant citing, if I missed any, let me know.Heeps of Wiki (talk) 23:02, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks that looks much better, the remaining obvious area is the first history paragraph. CMD (talk) 00:42, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Can't believe I missed that one, thanks for the heads-up. Taken care of. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 02:35, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm not finding the text as lining up with the sources.
- "In the mid-1950s, the construction of water control structures and an extensive ditch and levee road system began in the wildlife area, which did restore much of the original marshland but also cut deep into the bog's semi-aquitard layer. This caused the groundwater and surface water, which feeds into Dead Pike Lake from Powell Marsh, to interact with each other." Most of this doesn't seem to be in page 7 of the cited source.
- For the first paragraph of history, the source indicates that there were farms in addition to the railway. The wording around the wildfires is also quite odd, it suggests they were an unusual occurrence, but "the years leading up to the 1950s" is thousands of years. It also doesn't say the WDNR purchased the land.
CMD (talk) 12:57, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, that one slipped by me. I must have put in the wrong page number, although I have now fixed it. Also, reading back that history section was arduous, I have since fixed it and added info about the purchase and about the farms, while fixing wording about the wildfires. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 17:12, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Heeps of Wiki: I've made some tweaks looking through the sources. I was having some trouble aligning exactly what was happening with iron floc and the dead pike lake. My reading is that the iron bacteria are natural, but that the issue is accumulation. Another issue might be the raised water level caused by the water levees, but the source also says that they might prevent floc! I added a cn to one point I couldn't find, but I'm sure if you could point me to the right text that would help.As for hooks, I would suggest something like ALT 3 "... that decoy geese spent over 15 years trying to attract real geese to the Powell Marsh Wildlife Area?"Unfortunately going to ask for a second opinion here, as I feel I've become too involved in the text. CMD (talk) 14:29, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Chipmunkdavis: Thank you for your help, I have since added the citation and removed the cn that was added. Reading through the Dead Pike Lake Association plan there is some information on how iron rich groundwater and phosphorus rich groundwater from the wildlife area is causing accumulation in iron and phosphorus in the lake, which furthers the issue of the bacteria, sort of feeding the bacteria. I read it as the bacteria itself is natural, but the spread of it in the lake is not. Nice hook, too. I am kind of torn between the sensationalism of a lake being "polluted" and the fun hook about decoy geese. I could go either way, and agree that another perspective might help. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 17:22, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
- New enough, long enough, QPQ unnecessary. No neutrality problems found. ALT2 is sourced, and the most interesting of the three, though I need longer to decide if it's interesting enough. For now, where is your source for the first paragraph of the Powell Marsh section?--Launchballer 11:55, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- Added that source, and I will add the rest of the sources in places where they are needed soon. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 14:23, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Heeps of Wiki, has been open for a very long time—unusually so for DYK—and is approaching four months. Under the circumstances, I think that if you haven't been able to get everything done by May 31, a full four months, it ought to be closed. Please keep that in mind. Thank you for submitting. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:50, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: I understand that this has taken quite a while, but I am no longer sure of any further updates or changes that need to be made to the article. As far as I can tell, it is good to go, and has been for over a week and a half. I really don't know what else I can do to make sure this submission gets the nod. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 00:46, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
- I agree with Heeps of Wiki, the article is much improved, what remains is selecting a hook. @Launchballer:, did you see my ALT 3 suggestion above? Sounds like there's a nice contrasting choice between that and the original ALT 0. CMD (talk) 01:32, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
