Portuguese invasion of Jaffna kingdom (1591)

[edit]
  • ... that the second expedition against the Jaffna kingdom by the Portuguese captured the kingdom, killed a king and setup a new king? Source: De Queyroz, Fernão (1930). The Temporal and Spiritual Conquest of Ceylon. II. A.C. Richards. p. 810. ISBN 978-81-206-0766-8

  • Article new enough, long enough, and adequately cited. Hook short enough, interesting enough, and also cited. Article appears to be neutral and free of copyright violations and plagiarism. Cheers!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:31, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
  • Sorry, but this doesn't seem hooky. Don't most wars work this way? Yoninah (talk) 21:36, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
Could you more specific? --AntanO 21:44, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
  • The hook is not hooky. Could you suggest a different hook? Yoninah (talk) 21:46, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
I do not know what's wrong with that hook. It seems fine. If you have any idea, suggest me. --AntanO 02:39, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
  • The hook doesn't seem hooky because it talks about what happened in many wars. What makes this war different? Here are some ideas:
  • ALT1: ... that after gaining a partial victory over the Jaffna kingdom in 1560, the Portuguese successfully defeated their enemy in the invasion of 1591 and installed their own king ?
  • ALT2: ... that in their second invasion of the Jaffna kingdom in 1591, the Portuguese dispatched a force of 4,400 soldiers sailing on 43 ships and more than 200 small vessels?
  • I copyedited the article for English grammar. The second paragraph under "Background" lacks any cites, per Rule D2. Yoninah (talk) 22:28, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
Added reference for second paragraph. ALT1 seems good. --AntanO 04:41, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
  • Thank you. All paragraphs cited. Since I suggested ALT1, calling on another reviewer to complete this nomination. Dr. Blofeld? Yoninah (talk) 11:24, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
  • Approving ALT1 which is cited in the lead. Otherwise relying on Dr. Blofeld' s review. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:17, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
