Photos (software)
[edit]Created by StewdioMACK (talk). Self-nominated at 13:28, 9 April 2015 (UTC).
- Article is new enough. It is too short at just over 1300 characters excluding headings. It needs to be 1500 characters. Article is well referenced. The current article title seems open to misunderstanding by readers. I think a lot of people may arrive at the article looking for information about photo software generally. "Photos (program)" may be better? Hooks are correctly formatted. Article is neutral. I detected no copyvios or close paraphrasing. I assume that this is one of the user's first five nominations. Will be good to go once expanded. Philafrenzy (talk) 19:53, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
- I checked the article using a script and it comes out to 1574 characters. If I might ask, what method are you using to check the page size? StewdioMACK Talk page 02:15, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- I copied and pasted into Word which has a character count facility. Are you including the spaces between words? There are over 200 of them according to Word. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:17, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- I test my page sizes using User:Dr pda/prosesize.js, described in the supplementary guidelines as "the preferred counting method". From that same page, "1500 characters means including spaces." If you're still not comfortable with the size, I think I might be able to expand it a little. StewdioMACK Talk page 12:55, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- That's fine. Before I tick it, what do you think about the article title? Philafrenzy (talk) 13:27, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'm thinking maybe "Photos (application)"? StewdioMACK Talk page 15:20, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- I don't feel strongly about it but prefer program. Is there a difference between a program and an application? "Software" does seem to be the conventional suffix according to what I have seen but I still think this one might benefit from being changed for the reason I have given. It's Apples fault for having a failure of imagination in the naming of this application. It's not a DYK matter really so I will leave it to you and tick it either way. Philafrenzy (talk) 17:27, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Just an observation: similar Apple apps Calendar and Contacts are named Calendar (Mac OS) and Contacts (Mac OS). This is silly in my opinion, because the articles cover both the OS X and iOS versions. Maybe Photos (Apple) is another option, with the other articles being moved by me? That's just another option to consider. StewdioMACK Talk page 18:17, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- The Apple project is probably the place to discuss the others. For this one, I would go with program or application. Program seems most informative to me. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:46, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- I've gone with application. Hope that's all fine. I looked at the OS X software category and found most of them are titled "software", but that's unsuitable here. The only other case there is Things (application). So for consistency, I'm going with application. StewdioMACK Talk page 05:11, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
