Update: reviews are out, she made it to the headline in the FAZ: "Wie wuchtig die junge Braut ihre Verzweiflung herausschleudert!", short for (in the article) "Wie wuchtig diese junge, irische Braut, auf dem Wege nach Cornwall, um dort von Tristan an König Marke ausgeliefert zu werden, ihre Verzweiflung herausschleudert!" Hard to translate, google offered "How important these young Syrian Bride, on the way to Cornwall to be there shipped from Tristan to King Marke, their desperation flings!" (Rather dramatic change from Irish to Syrian, which is "syrisch" in German). My attempt (in the article): "How powerfully the young bride catapults her desperation!" - Can that be improved? Can that go to a hook? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:09, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
  • New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. I like ALT0, but the part about her singing mezzo-soprano at Bayreuth is not mentioned in the article. Regarding ALT1, the quote is a bit obscure; could "cantilenas" be linked in the hook and article? Also, why can't you just say "...that the soprano Petra Lang" without injecting the history, which non-musical readers know nothing about? QPQ done. Yoninah (talk) 21:20, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
I could, and have no time to argue about the thing that differentiates her from other Isolde singers, - she is able to handle the dark parts of the role, with her mezzo background.
ALT2: ... that Petra Lang expressed the desperation of Isolde forcefully at the 2016 Bayreuth Festival, according to Eleonore Büning of the FAZ? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:40, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
I still like the first hook best. Please add the part about her singing mezzo-soprano to the article and we could run with it. Yoninah (talk) 18:50, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
What I can do is in the article: that she switched to soprano in 2012, and sang Brangäne in 2005, Ortrud in 2011. Problem is that Wagner designed all parts as soprano, - mezzo-soprano was no term he would have used ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:57, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
As the last performance of the Handlung (action) was on 22 Augustm we need to change the tense:
ALT3: ... that Petra Lang, who performed the parts of Brangäne and Ortrud at the Bayreuth Festival as a mezzo-soprano, took over the part of Isolde in 2016? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:00, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
  • Fine with me. I see all the hook facts cited now. One last question: Are you sure you don't want to call her "the Isolde of 2016"? Yoninah (talk) 20:11, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
I liked your wording, but yes, simpler is hookier:
ALT4: ... that Petra Lang, who performed the parts of Brangäne and Ortrud at the Bayreuth Festival as a mezzo-soprano, was the Isolde of 2016? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:15, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Great. ALT4 hook refs verified and cited inline. ALT4 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 00:25, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
