Patrik Berger
[edit]... that Patrik Berger scored a penalty in the final of Euro 96?

- Comment: there is a picture at the article but I don't think it is good enough for the front page

- WP:AGF on offline reference, promoted to GA on 1/11, and hook long enough. With GA review it appears to meet other criteria. EricSerge (talk) 19:52, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

- I don't know if this question is for me, but the "hooky" definition at WP:WIADYK mentions "short, punchy, catchy, and likely to draw the readers in to wanting to read the article." I feel that the proposed hook is just that. Why is it not "hooky"? C679 06:11, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Because I have no idea who Patrik Berger is or why a last-minute penalty is important. Yoninah (talk) 13:34, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Surely the intrigue encourages a reader to click. It wasn't last-minute, but here is an alternative if you prefer.
- ALT1
... that Czech footballer Patrik Berger scored a penalty in the final of Euro 96?C679 16:21, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Now we know who he is, but we still don't know why it's important and, therefore, hooky. You could expand it:
- ALT2:
... that Czech footballer Patrik Berger scored a penalty in the final of Euro 96 to give the Czech Republic a 1–0 lead over Germany, but the Czechs lost the golden goal in overtime? - But if you use ALT2, you need an inline cite in the article for the last part of that statement. Alternatively, it would be great to make a pun or a contrasting statement about that "strong left foot". Here are other ideas:
- ALT3:
... that Czech footballer Patrik Berger was known for his powerful strikes, surging runs, and strong left foot? - ALT4:
... that although Czech footballer Patrik Berger retired from international football at age 28, he continued playing as an amateur until age 40?Yoninah (talk) 19:20, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- I've added a citation for ALT2 to work, but the grammar needs a fix, so here is my final offering:
- ALT5: ... that Czech footballer Patrik Berger scored a penalty in the final of Euro 96 to give the Czech Republic a 1–0 lead over Germany, but the Czechs lost to a golden goal in overtime?
Hope that's "hooky" enough! C679 19:39, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
