Patricia Grace
- ... that Patricia Grace had not read any books by New Zealand authors until she left high school, but was subsequently the first Māori woman to publish a collection of short stories? Source: "In 1975, Grace, now 82, was the first Māori woman to publish a book of short stories in New Zealand, despite the fact that she had not – by the time she finished high school – read a book by a local writer, let alone an Indigenous one." [1]
- ALT1:... that New Zealand author Patricia Grace intentionally did not include a glossary for Māori language terms in her book Potiki (1986), because she "didn't want the Māori language to be treated as a foreign language in its own country"? Source: "She left out a te reo glossary in the book. “I didn’t want the Māori language to be treated as a foreign language in its own country,” she reasoned. [2]

- Comment: Grateful for any suggestions, either for the hook or article. This is my sixth nomination, so I've included a QPQ.

- I love reading your work; I shall review this! Schwede66 08:18, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- 6 × expansion started today. Well referenced. Neutral. There are a couple of passages of the read-nz.org source that should be reworded in this article to have less similarity (I quote from the original):
- "With this narrative, Patricia Grace explores the often terrifying and complex world faced by men of the Maori Battalion in Italy during the Second World War, drawing on the war experiences of her father and other relatives to write an authentic fiction about Maori soldier Tu."
- "won the Te Kura Pounamu Award at the 2016 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults"
- Both hooks check out. The comma in ALT1 should be deleted, I suggest. I find ALT1 more 'hooky'. Thanks for mentioning that this is your first QPQ; I shall have a quick look over your should to make sure that your review hasn't missed anything. Great work, as usual. - I've looked over the review and that looks just fine. One more thought: given that Grace's birthday is on 17 August (in six days' time), why not try and feature the hook that day? Just needs some swift action on the two passages that are a bit close and then all's good. Schwede66 09:02, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Schwede66: Incredibly helpful as always! I have reworded those sentences to hopefully address the similarity issue; see what you think? I agree with you entirely re: the comma and featuring the hook on Grace's birthday. Let me know if I need to do anything on my end, in respect of either of those points. Thanks again, Chocmilk03 (talk) 21:28, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
