Palucca University of Dance Dresden
... that Gret Palucca had to close her dance school in Dresden, Germany in 1939 because of her Jewish descent?Source: https://www.deutsche-biographie.de/ppn118739093.html "After 1939 Palucca was prohibited from teaching due to her Jewish descent."- Reviewed: exempt,
fourth nominationthird nomination, fourth credit - Comment: I have 9x expanded the article to about 1700 characters. The source was the corresponding German article, which I translated and found in line citations for. There is some overlap with the Gret Palucca article, but I did not use it as a source.

- ALT1: ... that Gret Palucca (pictured) founded her dance school in Dresden in 1925 and only retired from teaching there in 1990, at the age of 88? Source: https://saebi.isgv.de/biografie/Gret_Palucca_(1902-1993) "The founding of the Palucca School in Dresden in 1925 ... In 1990, P. ended her teaching career at the age of 88." - ALT0a:... that Gret Palucca (pictured) had to close her dance school in Dresden, Germany in 1939 because of her Jewish descent, but reopened it in 1945?Source: https://www.deutsche-biographie.de/ppn118739093.html "After 1939 Palucca was prohibited from teaching due to her Jewish descent." "As early as July 15, 1945, she began teaching in a villa on Karcherallee." TSventon (talk) 12:35, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- Interesting school, on fine sourcs, and I can read the German ones, no copyvio obvious. Why no image? - In the hook, I suggest to say the almost unbelievable thing that she taught until 1991, with a founding year, perhaps adding the interruption during World War II? Sadly, just having to close is nothing too specific. Also: this is about the school, not her. - I'd like a bit more about the modern additional buildings, and perhaps the pic of Palucca rather than a tiny girl? Infobox? - There's a good one in German. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:39, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, thanks for the suggestions, I am busy with other things and am afraid it shows a bit. I didn't add an image because I couldn't find one as good as Hans Robertson's photo. I have added an infobox and replaced the photos with more from de Wikipedia, perhaps a Palucca photo is needed too. I find it interesting that the school didn't close until 1939, which seems to show the Nazis could be flexible when it suited them (not my specialist subject). Palucca also resigned from 1950 to 1954 to put pressure on the government (source Sächsische Biografie). I will respond further shortly. TSventon (talk) 23:12, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- I am perhaps the one understanding best to be busy with other things. No rush! Thank you for the additions! - Hook: I don't think our fast Main page readers - topic hoppers - will get the "not 1933 but 1939" without being told. Compare the nomination for Emily Pogorelc. Perhaps theleekycauldron could help here again? I still believe that the same person founding and teaching in 1925, and teaching in 1991, is more unique, even with interruptions. Says a lot of how daring she was young, and how enduring old. - Image: You could add the image of Palucca to the article, and as for the hook, who knows if her image will even be taken for Robertson. The image inclusion decisions are often beyond my understanding. Compare the Peter Merseburger nomination. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:29, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, thank you for the hook suggestion, see Alt1 below, which I prefer. I have used the Hans Robertson picture if that is OK, happy to change if not. I added it at the top, ignoring the do not edit here instruction. I have briefly described the new buidding but I am sure it could be improved. I haven't added any more detail of Palucca's time under the Nazis, that would need more research and probably belongs in her article. By the way, I am unsure about the word pedagogue, generally teacher is more common in English, but perhaps dance is a special case. TSventon (talk) 23:33, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- thank you! I dropped "Germany" as it doesn't really matter for the hook fact where that is.
- tlc, at this point, I could move the ALT to the top, or the pic to the hook, or leave as it is. What's best for a prep builder. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:31, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Well, probably don't move the pic down; if if you happen to be so inclined to move the hook up, it's a nice thing to do, but don't feel pressured. Ain't no thang :) theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 05:33, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hook moved up, please tweak if necessary. TSventon (talk) 08:21, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, could you possibly check and "sichten" the recent edits at de:Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden. I have updated the website and student numbers and added some archive urls for references. TSventon (talk) 06:17, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

- @Thriley and Gerda Arendt: As a passerby, I like the original hook better; sure, maybe closing up shop wasn't uncommon, but human-interest is a valuable thing to bring to an incident too often wrapped up in horrifying and incomprehensibly large body counts. It brings an appeal to click (and a worthwhile fact) that isn't, in my opinion, matched by simply highlighting the longevity of her career. Maybe the two hooks could be combined to show perseverance. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 12:10, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
