Monmouth Alms Houses

[edit]

Monmouth Alms Houses, rebuilt in 1842 (second version)

  • ... that the recently demolished Monmouth Alms Houses, scheduled for reopening next year, are still funded by a charity established four hundred years ago?

Created/expanded by ACP2011 (talk). Self nom at 16:58, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

  • Thank you for your review. Anne (talk) 15:41, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
  • Comment. If they have been demolished, how are they to be "reopened"? Surely they need to be rebuilt first? The wording isn't very clear, in my view. How would it be if we said something like:
"... that the Monmouth Alms Houses, of which new buildings are to be opened next year to replace ones recently demolished, are still funded by a charity established four hundred years ago?"
It's a bit clunky and could be improved, but it's also clearer, in my view. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:56, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
  • If you're concerned, how about:
"... that the Monmouth Alms Houses, recently demolished, with new buildings scheduled for reopening next year, are still funded by a charity established four hundred years ago?" Anne (talk) 16:24, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
  • ...or:
"that new Monmouth Alms Houses are to be provided by the charity established four hundred years ago to build the original dwellings?" Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:36, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
  • That's fine, too. Anne (talk) 11:43, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Can we have a reviewer (not Anne or Ghmyrtle) approve (or not) one of the new hooks, and if so, please give it an ALT number so the person promoting the nomination knows which hook to select? Thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 21:26, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Promoting the final of the newly suggested hooks, with the addition of "nearly" before "four hundred" because this is 2012, and the charity was founded in early 1613 (the hook otherwise matches facts and is supported by inline citations):
  • Final ALT: ... that new Monmouth Alms Houses are to be provided by the charity established nearly four hundred years ago to build the original dwellings? —BlueMoonset (talk) 21:13, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
