Meteorite (song)
[edit]- ... that "Meteorite" was the first time Mariah Carey and Q-Tip had collaborated together since "Honey" in 1997?
- ALT1:
... that Mariah Carey caused disruption to the program of the 2014 World Music Awards when she arrived four hours late to perform "Meteorite"? - ALT2:
... that Mariah Carey's song "Meteorite" starts with an observation by Andy Warhol that everyone will be famous for 15 minutes? - Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/Géza II of Hungary
- Comment: I'm guessing ALT 1 and ALT 2 will be more interesting to non-Mariah fans. I reckon ALT 2 would be the best one. — Calvin999 17:34, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- ALT1:
Created by Calvin999 (talk). Self-nominated at 17:34, 17 June 2015 (UTC).
- I reviewed it.
- New: Yes, created on July 17.
- Long enough: Yes, "Production and composition" alone has enough characters.
- Within policy: Not yet:
- I found the line "... soul and pop song which lasts for a duration of three minutes and 59 seconds.", neither source cites "soul".
- Could have sworn soul was in one of them. I removed it anyway. — Calvin999
- "and has a "galloping beat" according to Rap-Up.[4][8][12]" Basically, you are saying that Vibe and Complex said that statement, you should move it to the previous line.
- Moved. — Calvin999
- "to the 80s disco soundtrack album", the source never cites this genre, nor the "Miss Billie Frank" reference.
- Added two more sources. — Calvin999
- Elsewhere, everything's alright.
- Hook's format is good.
- I don't know if the ALT1 hook "unduly" focuses "on negative aspects of living people".
- If it was talking about her breakdown, then yeah, but her being late is necessarily focusing on a negative aspect of her as a person. — Calvin999 17:05, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
Other than this, the article meets the DYK criteria. © Tbhotch™ (en-2.5). 02:51, 23 July 2015 (UTC)- Good to go. I have no preference on the hook, so I leave it to the DYK staff. © Tbhotch™ (en-2.5). 19:41, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Calvin999: The main hook does not appear to be properly sourced; the source states that they previously worked on Honey, but not that they didn't do anything in between. It also doesn't mention Meteorite by name. ALT1 does focus unduly on a negative aspect of a living person, in my opinion. ALT2 is very closely paraphrased from its source. Sorry to be somewhat pedantic, but either the original hook or ALT2 should be altered slightly to make sure this fits all criteria. ~ RobTalk 21:31, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- Well, I don't really see how either of them can be changed enough to be distantly paraphrased. :-/ — Calvin999 22:17, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- On the contrary, the article goes too far in avoiding close paraphrasing, altering the meaning of the text, instead of simply wrapping the phrase in quotation marks which would satisfy both accuracy and copyvio concerns. The original Warhol line is "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes" and this song begins with Mariah saying "Yeah, Andy Warhol said, in the future everybody will be famous for fifteen minutes" but the article changes this to "an observation by Andy Warhol that everyone can achieve fame for 15 minutes". The shift from "will" to "can" is a fundamental one. Also, at no time does the article or hook link to 15 minutes of fame, the quite good article on the subject. - Dravecky (talk) 01:37, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
