Mesembrinella caenozoica
[edit]- ... that Mesembrinella caenozoica (pictured) is the only species in its family known from the Caribbean islands north of Trinidad and Tobago?
Source: "All extant mesembrinellid species are restricted in distribution to the rainforests of the Neotropical Region, from southern Mexico (Yucatan) to northern Argentina (Buenos Aires), with no records from the Caribbean islands except for Trinidad and Tobago" ([Cerretti et al 2017 http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0182101])
- ALT1:... that Mesembrinella caenozoica (pictured) is the first unambiguous fossil described in the fly superfamily Oestroidea?
Source: "The first unambiguous fossil of Oestroidea is described based on a specimen discovered in amber from the Dominican Republic" ([Cerretti et al 2017 abstract http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0182101]))

- New enough, long enough, meets core content policies. ALT1 cited to RS. (With regards to ALT0, the article and source only discuss living species; could there be another extinct species north of Trinidad and Tobago?) Jakob (talk) 21:17, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Jakob Coles: regarding Alt0, No, currently there is no evidence that there are other extinct species north of Trinidad and Tobago, as the PLOS One article is specificaly talking of the first extinct member of the Superfamily from the fossil record, thus no other members. What if's aren't a viable reason to discount ALT0.--Kevmin § 01:13, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- I only wanted to clarify that the hook was fully accurate and supported by the text. Either is fine if what you say is true. Jakob (talk) 01:25, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
