Martel, Lot

[edit]

5x expanded by Cwmhiraeth (talk). Self-nominated at 19:40, 12 October 2015 (UTC).

  • 5x expanded within timeframe, so long enough and recent enough. It's well written and provided with sources. QPQ done. The hook, however, is problematic. The source doesn't claim the town is named after Charles Martel, only that "Martel" means hammer, and that a legend credits Charles Martel with founding the city. For all we know it could be an example of false etymology. But how about something like this:
Alt 1 ... that the town of Martel is said to have been founded by Charles Martel, nicknamed "the hammer" after his victory in the Battle of Tours?
Let me know what you think. Yakikaki (talk) 19:41, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
@Yakikaki: Alt1 is fine by me. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 04:53, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
OK, then a new reviewer has to take a look on the alt hook. Yakikaki (talk) 16:27, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
  • · I noted two issues here. First, problem with the hook: Battle of Tours is not mentioned in the cited reference, as far as I can see. Second, Reference 4 (Musée d'Uxellodunum) appears to be a dead link. Else: Confirmed size and expansion of the of article. Checking for close paraphrasing: Earwig's Copyvio Detector found matching phrases with a couple of other sites. A deeper analysis shows that an old version of the wikipedia article probably was incorporated into the text at this site on 23 August 2014. Also, this other site has probably taken a long sentence verbatim from an earlier version of the wiki article. (Analysis of the article history shows that it is likley not the other way around.) So, no close paraphrasing issues were revealed. Oceanh (talk) 22:47, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
I have added a reference for the Battle of Tours and replaced the dead reference, which predated my involvement with the article. Thank you also for investigating the copyright issue. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:11, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
  • · Thank you for adding extra references. Hook fact verified. Oceanh (talk) 16:58, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
