Manistee Watch Company

[edit]
Manistee watch
Manistee watch
  • ...that there are less than 50 watches (example pictured) known to exist of the 60,000 produced by the Manistee Watch Company?

Created by Doug Coldwell (talk). Self nominated at 11:08, 24 June 2014 (UTC).

  • ALT: ...that of the 60,000 watches produced by the Manistee Watch Company (example pictured) fewer than 50 are known to survive?
The "example pictured" is an example of a watch from the Manistee Watch Company, not an example of a watch in general, so needs to go after the specific description. Belle (talk) 17:29, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
Great! I like ALT1. Thanks for explanation.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 17:56, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
Age fine, length fine, neutral, and just about scrapes through on close paraphrasing. The picture is usable and clear at the thumbnail size. In an ideal world I'd like to see a better source for the hook fact as the cited source seems to be a polemic on the state of US law enforcement rather than anything authoritative on horology, but this is basically ready to go if somebody approves my ALT hook. Belle (talk) 00:26, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Not sure I'm using the right tick -- I don't really know what they're all supposed to mean. Anyway... I think the source says fifty are known to survive in the US. Please check me on that. I share your concerns about the polemic, and that may be a serious problem. If that source doesn't itself cite a source, I'm not sure we should run with this hook -- lots of other fun facts to choose from, though! EEng (talk) 04:00, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

I saw that after suggesting the ALT but but forgot to add it (the watches were of low quality so probably weren't a big export item, but....precision, precision).
Fancy hook
I added a coupla variants above. I like 6/6A. EEng (talk) 18:54, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
I like your ALT6A wording. Its more clear than my ALT6 and sounds like a nice hook to me.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 19:11, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Glad you agree. A dwindling number of people have even seen a mechanical watch, must less a pocket watch, and I like to think people are happy to learn about something from the past. Another:

Strictly speaking this implies that a single model had both features, about which I'm not sure, but I'm not bothered by that. On the other hand, if you can establish that "Model 221B" or something qualifies, adding something like that to the hook adds color. This hook should definitely run with the image. EEng (talk) 19:45, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Oh yeah? Well, I'll see your 6C... and raise you... 6D!
I cropped the image a bit -- hope that's OK. Someone more skilled might be able to adjust contrast etc. EEng (talk) 20:49, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
I'm all in. You have the best hand hook and fanciest.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:17, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Ready (see my earlier review) with ALT6D and the first image (not the bishop's crozier). References for the hooks accepted in good faith as I can't access it and the others were OK. Note to Doug Coldwell and EEng: I shall need more money on the next review as my estimate for this one did not cover the additional work that was required to strike out all the ALTs (Note to everybody else: this is a joke, I am not being paid to review. Or am I? No, I'm not. Or am I?) Belle (talk) 07:34, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Check is in the mail cyberspace!--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:19, 27 June 2014 (UTC) P.S. whew!!! Glad you didn't call my bluff! ...or do I have a pair of aces in the hole?--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:28, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
[enters 1950s Western mode] Not unless there are six aces in this pack mister. You calling me a cheat, you no-good yella-bellied sidewinder? [Gunshots. Doug holds his hand to his shirt, it comes away red. He tries to mouth something but collapses to the floor. Belle holsters her pistol and turns away. Drops of blood form a trail in the dust as she walks away. The doors of the saloon swing shut behind her. There is the sound of a body falling. Long shot of Belle's body laying in the street. Mournful music. Credits] Belle (talk) 10:54, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Still ready. Just Doug and me mucking about after the initial tick. Belle (talk) 15:34, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

  • Comment - if possible, could the artice be the first in the queue with the watch picture. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:32, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
