Leslie George Cole

[edit]

Created by Bonkers The Clown (talk). Self nom at 04:42, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Text only prose size on 2012-12-29 (day after nom) was 4066 B (667 words) "readable prose size"; article created Dec 27th, so date and length ok. Online cites show no close paraphrasing, offline cites taken AGF. One QPQ done, article appears neutral & w/o policy violations. Issues:
(a) Hook length is 177 chars, but awkwardly phrased and is a problem as it appears to be a concatenation of two sources in different places in the article, separately cited. To remedy, suggest hook ALT1: ... that Australian magician Leslie George Cole created the impaling illusion?, or editing the lead to include the fact about the frauds exposure, which are the intriguing things.
(b) A small thing, cite #4 Magician's Biographies should indicate to the reader the listing is not under Cole, but "Levante, Les". Not being familiar with Les, I had to go back to the article to look at his alt names and then back to the source, and had it been in the cite note, that would have saved me the trouble.
(c) The Cole image needs a proper creation date: it currently gives a date of 2006, which is not correct as the image was likely taken prior to 1955, but there is nothing in the image description that supports that determination. The poster image similarly needs a proper source/date which now rather vaguely refers the viewer to the "estate".
(d) A minor thing, but the career section might be two paragraphs rather than one, and some of the article phrasing is awkward, such as "another member of Cole's magic show, Robert Butt, married Esme Cole", which probably should read something like "Esme Cole married Robert Butt, another member of Cole's magic show", since the article's emphasis is on Cole and his family rather than on others. — Sctechlaw (talk) 16:02, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
  • checkY Changed hook, modified the page per issues raised, and I have no idea how the "2006" date got there!!! Sometimes these "scripts" and "Wizards" screw up... Image info is limited as what I have is limited; the author and date stuff were unspecified. I have tried my best to modify the File Infobox. Thanks for reviewing. Cheers. Looks better and ready to go; I think another reviewer should review the images dating issue next, since PD images need documentation. — Sctechlaw (talk) 18:33, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
  • PD image is fine. Subject of image died before 1 January 1955 and so image was taken or published prior to 1 January 1955. Thus the image was taken or published more than 50 years ago and prior to 1 May 1969. Poster image from Wikipedia Commons and AGF okay for use within the article. Good to do per above.
