Kuwait Airways Flight 422
[edit]- ... that the 16-day April 1988 hijacking of Kuwait Airways Flight 422 (pictured, similar airplane) was one of the world's longest skyjacking incidents?

- 5x, long, neutral, cited. The beginning of the last paragraph is missing some citations, though. Copy edited hook, which is very interesting. Problem: refs in the article don't support the hook. No citation for "16 days" and while the newspaper says something about it being one of the longest, the second article doesn't. (I'd remove the second article, personally, as its reliability appears dubious.) If this was indeed one of the longest skyjackings, I'm sure you can find more citations than a one-off newspaper article, no? (I also know it's older, but I thought I'd ask.) Resolve these quibbles and the rest looks good. Great work! czar · · 05:55, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback. I'm assuming you're referring to the AirDisaster.com article, which I've now removed and replaced with one from the Schenectady Gazette that mentions the length. Also added more inline citations so hopefully it's good to go now. Let me know if there are any other issues and I'll take another look. Cheers Paul MacDermott (talk) 12:36, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- Much better, but I'm having trouble verifying the "longest" part (I remember seeing it in the Bryan source, but can't find it now). It would be useful to add the quote to the ref's quote param. Also I imagine there have to be better sources for such a statement (extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof). I found a possible Time mag ref here, but I can't access or verify it. Also, do you want to include the image in the DYK? czar · · 17:50, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- Using the picture would be good if that's possible. I've added the Time Magazine as a ref. A Google search seems to confirm it, but I sadly don't have access to it either. Also quoted the Bryan Times, but had to add a sentence about the Kuwaiti Prince to the main text in order to place it in context. Have split sections too. - Actually, I hope I'm referencing the right prince there. Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:54, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Added image. I'd AGF on your Time ref, but we both don't know what the ref says! Any way you can extract at least the relevant quote from the article? And if ref 13 doesn't support the statement, please remove it. czar · · 04:33, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Cheers for doing the pic. Thanks to the magic of Google I have the quote, and what appears to be a copy. The full passage reads "Any doubts about the brutality of Shatti's tormentors evaporated as the ordeal of Flight 422 stretched into its second week and gained distinction as the longest uninterrupted skyjacking ever." I'll add it and include some new detail from the article. Paul MacDermott (talk) 12:44, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- You're very close. Ref 13 needs to be removed from the "longest" sentence if it doesn't actually describe that sentence, right? And I believe that source was for the "16 day" fact, so use that elsewhere in the article. Remember that the ref needs to be near the fact (per 3b). czar · · 14:09, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- ok, I've shifted things round a bit so it should work now. Paul MacDermott (talk) 15:15, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
