Kiki Byrne
[edit]... that Mary Quant's first rival, fashion designer Kiki Byrne, was one of her former employees?

... that 1950s–60s fashion designer Kiki Byrne, rival to Mary Quant, "never got the recognition she deserved", according to the founder of Biba? - Reviewed: Nicolae Minovici
- Comment: There are a few other possible hooks - maybe one about the Goldfinger bikini, but I think the Quant rivalry is the catchiest factoid.

- This hook was pulled from P4 by EEng. Pls see WT:DYK#The first shall be last. --PFHLai (talk) 15:43, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- Adding icon to indicate that this is not currently approved: issues are that original hook's "first rival" was unsupported, and that the hook was said by EEng to be uninteresting because former employees becoming rivals in this industry is not particularly noteworthy or interesting. - Just to emphasize that I'm not some final approval decider, just a busybody editor who's contributing added scrutiny. My only real concern is the "final" aspect of the hook (see DYK talk) -- the point that former-employee rivalries are common was just a side comment, not a reason for pulling. But since it's come up there might be something a bit more attention-grabbing -- maybe something like

that 'the Times said KB's 1960s fashion designs appealed "to young women keen to develop a look of their own instead of conforming to the styles favoured by their mothers and aunts."

- That gives a window into the past, instead of being something that could just as well have happened today. Just a suggestion. EEng (talk) 16:25, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

- Comment - From a fashion history perspective, the Quant factoid is quite snappy because so often Quant is presented as the be-all and end-all, the First Ever, the Mother of the Miniskirt (which she denies!), etc. Plus, it is supported in the obituary and in a few other interviews with industry insiders, etc - a number of people around in the 60s say Kiki was the second after Quant. With the greatest respect, I think the suggested third alternative is actually incredibly boring - I wouldn't click on it, and I'm a fashion history type, it just sounds like the sort of thing anyone would claim for any fashion designer. So I suggest:
- ALT3: ... that Kiki Byrne designed the golden bikini worn by Margaret Nolan in the title sequence of the James Bond film Goldfinger? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mabalu (talk • contribs) 21:04, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- You're probably right about my ALT2. I like ALT3. I'm just commenting since I'm already here -- you don't have to please me. EEng (talk) 00:32, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- Review of ALT3: Short enough and hooky enough. It is sourced to citation #1 which is online but has a paywall, so I'll accept it AGF. Yoninah's original full review of 18 June still stands. Good to go (this time). --Storye book (talk) 16:15, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
