Kevin Rashid Johnson

[edit]
Source 1: The [Florida Department of Corrections] has confirmed that one of the strike's major organizers, state inmate Kevin "Rashid" Johnson, was formally charged with 'inciting a riot' on January 10." ... "The FDOC claims no work disturbances ever actually took place, but in a January 19 memo to the public, prisoner-rights groups said they'd received letters from prisoners in 16 different facilities who say they'd either participated in a work stoppage or been preemptively punished for trying to do so." [1]
Source2: The [Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee] reports that dozens of their contacts were placed in confinement prior to demonstrations planned for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Although the FDOC claims no repression has taken place ("There was no punitive action on the work stoppage because it didn't happen—there was no strike," says FDOC Director of Communications Michelle Glady).[2]

  • I stumbled across this interesting fellow yesterday when I noticed that q:Kevin Rashid Johnson didn't have any corresponding article on en.wiki. I considered whether to nominate it for deletion, and lo a behold the guy publishes an article in The Guardian today of all days that popped up on my Reddit feed this morning. "So that's certainly unique for a convicted murderer", I thought, and here we are. Seems to be a fairly radical socialist from what I can tell, and claims the...perhaps somewhat dubious title of "minister of defense" for the New Afrikan Black Panther Party. But one way or another you can't say the guy is boring, and actually turns out to be quite the prolific writer, with two books to his name (of fairly meh notoriety admittedly) and even a spot in a peer reviewed journal, and all apparently snuck out of prison from his cell in solitary confinement, where he's been since apparently 1994.
