Jump (Rihanna song)

[edit]
  • ... that Rihanna wants a man to "Jump" on her saddle so that she can ride his "Pony"?

  • Article new enough, long enough, and within policy. Interesting hook which meets formatting guidelines, QPQ has been done. Inline citation verified.DiverDave (talk) 17:38, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
  • I have pulled this hook for a number of reasons, amongst others because it is poorly expressed (to the point of almost being a BLP violation) and uninteresting as well as including an arguably WP:OR interpretation of the lyrics. I think the hook needs to be either more carefully written or else a new hook found. Gatoclass (talk) 11:13, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
It's not uninteresting. It's provocative and eye catching, presumably why it caught your eye in the first place. As the reviewer said, it's verified by the sources. It's not an interpretation, it's wordplay. There's nothing wrong with this.  — AARONTALK 11:30, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
I would describe it as practically salacious, but that's not why I pulled it. Songs about guys and girls wanting to make each other are a dime a dozen, so I think the hook fails the "unusual" requirement. One could argue that the "saddle ... pony" metaphor is unusual I guess, but there are countless such metaphors in popular music, what's so special about this one?
My main reasons for pulling the hook however, are firstly, because it's inaccurate and makes Rihanna sound like a slut (because she just wants "a man" to make her) which is a BLP violation, and secondly because the interpretation of the lyric (she wants to ride a man's pony, rather than the other way around) looks to me like a misinterpretation of the lyrics or otherwise WP:OR. So I think these issues need to be resolved before any such hook can be approved. Gatoclass (talk) 12:17, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
The song's lyrics is about sex though, and we all know Rihanna is very sexual. The hook itself is unusual become they don't often appear on DYK. I think it's provocative.  — AARONTALK 14:18, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Those are my opinions as alts for the hook. — Tomíca(T2ME) 13:38, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Tomica, can we come up with something more interesting later tonight? Out of these three I'd go with 3 because 1 and 2 are like a lot of the hooks we nominate.  — AARONTALK 14:18, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Will be on later tonight.  — AARONTALK 14:27, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

These hooks all look acceptable to me except that the last one is ungrammatical, but I don't have time to verify them right now, I will try to do so in the near future but any uninvolved user is welcome to check them in the meantime. Gatoclass (talk) 11:47, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

I have struck ALT3 due to its grammatical and accuracy issues and replaced with ALT4. Gatoclass (talk) 03:35, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

  • Review still needed. Striking original hook for the reasons given by Gatoclass above. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:53, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
  • New enough, long enough, well-referenced, no close paraphrasing seen in sources. ALT4 is catchy and hook ref is verified. ALT4 hook good to go. Yoninah (talk) 18:13, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
