John Rey Tiangco

[edit]

BLP expanded 5x expanded by PapaJeckloy (talk). Self nominated at 16:09, 29 August 2014 (UTC).

  • Sorry, but to be eligible for the 2x BLP exception, an article must start with no sources of any kind. This one had an inline reference prior to the expansion, so it's not eligible, and requires the usual 5x expansion, or to be made a Good Article. It had 889 prose characters before expansion, and it's currently 2095, so a further expansion of 2350 characters would be required. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 20:30, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
  • It's not that the article needed to be 2350 – it needed an additional 2350, to make it 889 x 5 = 4445. It's now 2708, so it still requires 1737 more prose characters. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 05:02, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
  • @Mandarax: The article has more than 4445 characters now, check it!, so the requirements has reached, so if there are no problems left, this article must be eligible for DYK. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 16:14, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
  • It's now 5194 prose characters. Note that DYKCHECK is still saying it's not sufficiently expanded. I think that's because it used to be 1347, but on July 17, 2013, a paragraph was removed. This paragraph contained unsourced allegations of corruption about a living person, so the removal of the paragraph appears to be legitimate. In my opinion, the 5x expansion requirement has been fulfilled, assuming the added text was original. However, there's a note saying "Translated from the Filipino language" followed by the long Filipino passage. If the corresponding English text is simply a translation of text from some site, then not only does that not count in the expansion, but it should be removed as a copyright violation. I'm not saying that it is; just that it should be checked. A reviewer who speaks Filipino would be very helpful. I've only checked the numbers; the only thing I've read is the paragraph which was removed. so this now needs a full review. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 18:13, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
  • For the future reviewer: I have fixed the problems that @Mandarax stated, I have removed the note and changed the statements to avoid copyvios and added a statement in the citation that it's on Filipino, i have also removed the long note because @Mandarax said that it's a copyvio, Thanks! -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 09:41, 31 August 2014 (UTC).
  • Drive-by comment: While I understand removal of copyvio content to be an exception to the 5x expansion rule, WP:DYKSG seems pretty clear that copyvio is the only exception. There are clear NPOV ("Tiangco is known for his excellent service as the mayor, giving all his commitment to the residents of the city") and MOS/writing issues with this article (frequent use of commas as sentence separation punctuation). —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 00:41, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
  • PapaJeckloy altered my comment to make a phrase bold. Well, here's something in bold: DO NOT ALTER ANYBODY ELSE'S COMMENTS! Mendaliv, you're correct that the only exception is removal of copyvio material. I've removed PapaJeckloy's bolding of my comment, and have instead struck it. The removal of unsourced contentious BLP content does seem like it should be a valid exception, so I won't object if the final reviewer opts to invoke it. In any case, I'm done with this nomination.
